Digital
Recording Enterprise Management Systems vs. Standard Stand-Alone
Digital Recording
Clients are asking our company about features to consider
when purchasing video digital recording Enterprise Management
systems versus standard stand-alone digital recording?
Buying one video digital recorder is easy and the next step
to owning several is always a management issue as how to centralize
and standardize. An Enterprise Management solution incorporates
many of the IT standard requirements in controlling a Network
of computers because that is what they are, computers.
Solutions
to look for in an enterprise solution include: third a party
configuration access, secure token management that allows
for non dedicated passwords to access the DVR Network, centralized
user authorization and automated configuration. The ability
to monitor the system for troubles is important. When troubles
become a service issue the ability to transmit the condition
via e-mail in an escalation mode is helpful.
Securing
the Network is very important and some the features to consider
is digitally signed software updates, user authorization and
encrypted connections.
When
configuring system solutions the scalability of the system
is always a concern. The client will want to know how many
units can be controlled, organization paths to control the
system management, is the solution modular and grow to the
numbers of units required.
Compatibility
with the Network, which may pre-exist or will require a new
design, is important. The Network questions will include the
type IP address, is this a proxy service application to determine
Network traffic, can the customer automatically discover the
field Network units with Enterprise Solution.
Ocean
Marina CCTV
Our customer is an ocean marina specializing in high value
boats. We are recommending an exterior dome to cover the docks
with CCTV. Do we need to consider a heavy-duty dome for this
application?
When you mention "ocean" the salt water environmental condition
becomes a concern. What you want to do is keep the salt water
out of the dome. If this is not accomplished the salt water
air will corrode the electronic boards inside. You need to
look for a product with minimum specifications to assure you
customer a long life for the dome application.
In
locating the dome it is important to provide an adequate electrical
power source to provide the proper power to manage the heater
and blowers, dew points and environmental sensors, pan and
tilt mechanism as well as camera and lens power. Most domes
will step down the electrical power from 115 Vac to 24 volts.
Most manufactures recommend you should be located within six
feet of the camera ensemble.
An
environmental pendant made out of aluminum or stainless steel
is recommend. Please use stainless steel hardware bolts and
screws. The customer and future service technicians will appreciate
the added consideration.
To
combat the salt-water air consider a pressurized dome of at
least 5 psig. The dome should include environmental solid-state
sensors for temperature, pressure and dew points. NEMA specifications
should include Type 6P and IP67 Standards. If you are dealing
with the government or chemical type applications these specifications
are important.
